Five things to check every time. Takes a couple minutes and saves you a bad day on the highway.
Right ball, latched
2" on the utility trailers, 2-5/16" on the car haulers and deckover. Latch the coupler and pin it.
Chains crossed
Cross the safety chains under the tongue and hook them to your hitch.
Plug and lights
4-way flat on utility, 7-way round on the big trailers. Check brake lights and blinkers.
Weight forward
Put about 60% of the load in front of the axles. That's what keeps it from swaying.
Straps tight
Strap vehicles at four points. Pull over after the first few miles and check them again.
